Green Tea

When you think of tea, there is a good chance that you are thinking of green or black tea. Green tea originates from China and has been at the center of more than 500 research studies conducted in recent years. In Asia this smooth brew has been used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years.

Science has linked Green Tea consumption to the slowing or prevention of many medical conditions, ranging from heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, impaired immune disease and liver disease.  If this were not enough, some studies also suggest that Green Tea may have cancer fighting properties for cancer of the bladder, colon, prostate, esophageal, stomach, lung, breast and pancreas. Other health benefits of Green Tea also include the aiding in fighting tooth decay, and dieting. Green Tea has also been reported to reduce the risk of neurological disorders like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, reduction of risk associated to strokes, and the improvement of cholesterol levels.

Whether Green Tea is consumed hot or over ice, it's medicinal properties are attributed to its rich concentration of catechin polphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate, which act as powerful antioxidants that ward off disease and can lead to improved health.

Green Tea, in general has a higher level of antioxidants than Black Tea or the Oolong Varieties.

Green tea most resembles the taste of the tea leaf in its natural state. Most Green Teas have a light, slightly sweet flavor, while some have a smoky malt like flavour that leaves your mouth dry. The choice grade of green tea is Gunpowder; the young leaves are rolled into tiny balls. Green teas are not withered nor  are they fermented. Rather, the freshly picked leaves are steamed and then quickly dried which prevents the leaves from going brown.

Green Tea simply tastes great!
We are constantly improving our selection of teas, so please check back often to see the following list below of the Green Teas that we carry.

Please Note: Before starting a tea regimen for medicinal purposes, always consult with your doctor and discuss how and whether tea can play a role in your health care.
